Position Summary

Navis is hiring a an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our product group team dedicated to Rail operations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be a part of a growing team and must have a passion for solving complex and interesting problems. You will work with a team of domain and automation experts who are designing, building, and continually upgrading an integrated, end-to-end system supporting the automation and optimization of Rail operations in Marine terminals and Intermodal terminals. The role will have high visibility in Navis.

 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior technical members in the team to architect, design, and develop software for the current and future generation

  • Deliver components with high quality and on time

  • Top-to-bottom ownership of new features, including crafting technical specs, writing readable and extensible code, and keeping tabs on post-release metrics

  • Adapts to new environments and changing requirements. Pivots quickly as needed. When coached, responds to need & seeks info from other sources

  • Some international travel to customers and other offices may be required

 

Requirements

  • Master’s in computer science with focus on enterprise systems design, Cloud

  • 12+ years of enterprise software and/or cloud services (SaaS) development experience

  • Experience in full stack software development with programming languages (e.g. Java, C/C++, Python, and/or JavaScript)

  • 1+ years’ experience in engineering software on Git, Bitbucket, Swaggerhub, Docker/Kubernetes

  • Problem solving expertise using advanced data structures and algorithms

  • Strong affinity to software driven engineering & automation

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across teams

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, test-driven, collaborative and iterative programming environment. Experience with agile development approaches is a plus

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

 

Optional Requirements 

  • Hands on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction is a plus

  • Strong understanding of REST and IoT protocols is a plus

  • Experience with open source frameworks such as Hibernate, Spring and Mule a plus
