Position Summary

 

Builds performance-based technical training for Navis’ instructor-led and web-based training for our customers, partners, and employees. The Courseware Developer works with Instructional Designers, Subject Matter Experts, Professional Services Consultants, and Engineering team members to produce technical training material using accepted processes and industry standard tools for the required content formats.

 

You will join a team of expert Instructional Designers in creating curricula that supports our customers in making improvements in both short- and long-term effectiveness with Navis products. This position includes building the courseware in Captivate, Camtasia, Storyline, or equivalent authoring tools. You will draft scripts and quiz questions, suggest and produce revisions to existing courseware, and sustain Navis’ courseware styles and standards. The Courseware Developer works with limited supervision, and must be able to independently troubleshoot and innovate efficient solutions to a variety of editorial, technical, and operational challenges. You will be a continuous learner yourself, and approach each project open to new discoveries.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform tasks associated with courseware development including the following:
    • Draft Course Content (storyboards, scripts, slides, text, exercises, quiz questions, job aids, etc.) based on design documents and independent research of source material
    • Convert course content into media that will promote learning (screencasts, screenshots, animations, diagrams, infographics, charts, online games)
    • Build highly interactive e-learning courses in various authoring tools
    • Test, debug, and optimize existing courseware, graphics, SCORM, and animation files to ensure functionality
  • Use multiple sources—including design documents, Subject Matter Expert input, product manuals, bug reports, and technical marketing material—to validate, edit, and draft course content.
  • Integrate a variety of instructional techniques into course content while producing deliverables that maintain a cohesive, consistent voice.
  • Maintain instructional integrity of Navis’ Training materials by ensuring alignment with learning and performance objectives.
  • Adhere to departmental style guides, processes, and quality definitions, without guidance, to meet high standards required by Navis’ global audience.
  • Catalog and maintain content artifacts including learning objectives, assessment questions (for testing and certification), evaluations, illustrations/infographics, and text.
  • Work with Instructional Designers and/or Subject Matter Experts to validate, revise, and produce technical instructor-led courses and materials, including instructional text, exercises, technical diagrams, animations, etc.
  • Work with Instructional Designers to convert instructional materials created for one format to another format.
  • Support Instructional Designers and Subject Matter Experts in formatting, copy-editing, and finalizing ancillary materials.
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in regular Navis Training team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, a learning-based field, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience developing instructor-led and e-learning for software training, within tight timelines and requirements
  • Demonstrated media development skills, and ability to implement high-quality design specifications using efficient workflows
  • Attentive to detail and accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and proofreading
  • 3-5 years’ practical and demonstrable experience with all or most of the following authoring and development tools: Adobe Captivate, Adobe Presenter, Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (or open source equivalents), Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Snag-It
  • 1-3 years’ practical and demonstrable experience testing interactive e-learning SCORM packages inside and outside of the delivery LMS
  • Proven experience revising copy without modifying original intent or focus of the content
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Solid knowledge of courseware development software, workflows, and storage
  • Passion for learning, communicating, and solving problems
  • High degree of interest in the logistics and container terminal industries
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Adaptable, good-humored, gracious

Additional Expertise Desired

 

  • Proficiency in advanced authoring tools such as Storyline, Lectora, or equivalent technologies, and graphic, video, and 3D animation production tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Unity, Sumerian, Unreal, or open-source equivalents
  • Multilingual fluency is a plus
  • Familiarity with the Cornerstone LMS system is a plus
  • Experience in either the container terminal or technical software industry
  • Experience with developing VR and/or AR environments
  • Experience with production and post-production of technical video training
