Position Summary

 

A Navis Sr. Operational Consultant performs analysis of business processes and associated process improvement and provides operational mentoring to Navis customers the N4 or Sparcs software.

 

Responsibilities

 

Support the implementation of Navis solutions using our Implementation Methodology, with focus on operations coaching and business process analysis/improvement. Specifically, work with operational leaders at terminals to:

 

  • Coach vessel planners, yard planners, and dispatchers to use our N4 Software in an effective and proactive way.

  • Design control room role splits and what N4 tools and screens each role to use.

  • Propose alternate business processes and how these can be represented in Navis

  • Provide domain expertise in the areas of terminal operations throughout the project life cycle

  • Provide recommendations on standard operating procedures, role definition, and structure of the operations department.

  • Perform tuning activities to improve productivity and/or efficiency of container terminals.

  • Occasionally, support pre-sales activities and support Navis product management 

  • Assist with building a growing consulting practice to include practice aids and templates for use at multiple clients

 

Requirements

 

  • Degree in Business, MIS, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related disciplines

  • 5+ years of experience in hands-on operational planning and execution in a container terminal

  • 3+ years of experience in working with Navis Sparcs or N4 software as a user

  • 8+ years of experience in working in the shipping business

  • Experience in developing ideas for increasing operational productivity and efficiency

  • Experience in consulting and/or mentoring others in container terminal operations

  • Willing to travel up to 80%

  • Experience in working with IT departments to translate ideas into pragmatic and executable projects.

  • Experience in using software tools like MS Excel to analyze data through, e.g., pivot tables, scripts, formulas, etc.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English

 

Optional Qualifications

  • Knowledge on Navis modules Expert Decking and/or Autostow

  • Knowledge of Simulation (emulation) techniques to help identify bottlenecks in logistics processes, ideally in the container terminal space.

  • Working knowledge of use case modeling and process modeling techniques

  • Project Management experience or certifications
