Strength Analyst

Purpose of the position

 

MacGregor is a world class supplier of equipment for load handling, mooring and loading/offloading solutions. As we are now facing an increasing interest for our services, we are looking for a Strength Analyst to join MacGregor’s Merchant Solutions Division (MSD). The role is responsible for structural simulations within allocated contracts and support to  other departments with strength calculations.

 

The position is based in Zagreb / Croatia and reports to the Design Manager.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to the development of department  and calculation processes and software tools 
  • Plan, coordinate and lead work with subcontracted strength calculation teams
  • Check subcontracted and internal strength calculations
  • Review and interpret rules and codes related to our equipment 
  • Ensure that the latest calculation tools, best practices and rules are used within the engineering team
  • Develop Script, Excel templates, MathCad template etc in order to enhance productivity
  • Assist with Heavy load case calculations on existing structures
  • Be involved at tendering stage for special projects
  • Support Product Owners or other relevant departments with analysis of damaged structures, best practices and efficient structural solutions
  • Support Production Control with requirements for welds, detail categories etc.
  • Support Installation and on-site personnel with calculations for transportation, adjustments etc.
  • Support and communicate with  DR and DL all deviations from contract with technical or commercial impact
  • Take active part in contacts and meetings with Classification Societies and customers in close cooperation with DR/DL
  • Create strength approach document within contract and communicate it with stakeholders 
  • Establish strength criteria for all individual items 
  • Review allocated hours, keep DR/DL informed about calculation progress, hour consumption  
  • Attending design review meetings as necessary 
  • Calculations of loads into ship structures for stiffening of hinges, securing devices 
  • Calculation of dynamic and sea loading on steel and ship structures
  • Shock calculations on steel structures for Navy contracts
  • Calculations according to land codes for passenger gangways and linkspans
  • Special simulations such as buckling and fatigue calculations, if necessary
  • Create calculation checklist for each individual item in cooperation with item responsible
  • Define load cases for primary structure and load carrying fittings in cooperation with item responsible
  • Ensure calculations are carried out in accordance with Classification Society, National Authority Rules and other applicable standards
  • Prepare, write, collect and submit strength reports and other documentation to Classification Societies, National Authorities and 3rd party reviewer
  • Ensure that the calculations are checked. 

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

Education: 

  • M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architect

 

Experience:

  • 5 years hands-on experience with structural analysis within marine industry, or similar

 

Competencies:

  • Strength calculation
  • Special calculation: FEM, Shock, hydrodynamic and fatigue
  • Rules and regulations
  • Function, design, construction and performance of CAS products
  • Leadership and team management
  • Nauticus 3D Beam, GeniE, ANSYS FEM, Mathlab, SpaceClaim,
  • Presentation and communication.
