Operations Support Engineer

Purpose of the position
The purpose of the role is to work with vessel superintendents as well as cross-functional MacGregor sales, parts, and service teams to provide technical support for generating, preparing, proposing, and delivering technical and operations support proposals and tenders to
clients within the naval, merchant/commercial, or offshore vessel, rig, and platform industries.
This US role is based from MacGregor’s facility in Hampton, Virginia. This role requires 10% domestic and 5% int’l travel.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Work with vessel superintendents as well as cross-functional MacGregor sales, parts, and service teams to provide technical support for generating, preparing, proposing, and delivering technical and operations support proposals and tenders to clients within the naval, merchant/commercial, or offshore vessel, rig, and platform industries
- Train and mentor service engineers to ensure development and competency requirements for the team are met against all relevant product lines
- Interact with clients both remotely and on site to ensure the correct understanding of scope deliverables prior to generating proposals or responding to tenders along with additional site work
- Develop technical packages (repairs, upgrades and otherwise) in line with the customer vessel, rig, or platform life expectancy requirements
- Provide complex technical support to the U.S. team both in office and on site. Provide direction and information to Customer Support colleagues as required
- Lead complex fault finding tasks. Manage technical information to maintain accuracy and completeness. Travel to customer vessels and/or sites as required in line with this role
- Identify and develop customer business
- Promote MacGregor products and capabilities (upgrades, retrofit, life extension, modernization etc.)
- Maintain technical knowledge of products and solutions across the MacGregor product range relevant to the regional fleet
- Contribute to the implementation of the team strategic plans. Contribute to process improvements. Perform other duties as required in accordance with this role and any operational necessity
What you’ll need to succeed
- Two (2) years of experience as Operations Support Engineer, Technical Support Engineer, Crane Service Engineer, Service Coordinator, or related
- The two (2) years of experience requires customer facing experience in generating, preparing, proposing, and delivering technical and operations support proposals and tenders to clients within the naval, merchant/commercial, or offshore vessel, rig, or platform industries with regard to onboard vessel/platform/rig equipment, including preservice planning, service proposal development and negotiation, project timeline and budget estimation, project site planning, spare parts logistics and planning, technical and engineering crew coordination and management, service quality assurance planning and coordination, service delivery direction and management, customer communication, and compliance with applicable classification and regulatory requirements. 10% domestic and 5% int’l travel
