Competitiveness Development Engineer

Purpose of the position

Product portfolio cost down 

  • Support and take lead for the design work of parts and systems with the overall target to reduce cost and supply “good enough” quality
  • Take lead, but work in close cooperation with Sourcing to find substitute components with lower cost in China or elsewhere
  • Work together with all stakeholders from the business lines and Sourcing to support the swift approval of new solutions and components with the overall objective to implement cost reductions in first applicable customer projects 
  • Take full ownership of tasks agreed with Competitiveness team and business line representatives 
  • Ensure on time deliverables of agreed tasks 

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Keep resources from various functions and business lines up to date with the overall objective to ASAP build consensus around decisions and the way forward. Collaborations to share the best practice
  • Evaluate and challenge Class Society requirements for parts and systems, and support business line discussions with Class Society related costs and requirements.
  • Develop and propose a Validation and testing procedure of new parts
     

What you’ll need to succeed:

Education: 

  • B.Sc. in Engineering, or similar

Experience:

  • 10+ years working experience

Software:

  • Drawings (Production of Layout DWG¡¦s, Single line DWG¡¦s, Schematic DWG¡¦s, Bill of material,  spare part-list). Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk AutoCAD Mechanical, Autodesk Vault, E3, and EPlan
  • PLC programming, Production of complete software for allocated items. 
  • Calculation (Calculation of cable sizes, feeder sizes, contactor and relay sizes, panel sizes).
  • Classification regulations (From given parameters, designing in accordance with regulations, and choosing adequate equipment)

Competencies:

  • Electronic or Hydraulic designing background
  • Network / familiar with various suppliers in China and elsewhere
  • Strategic and analytical cost conscious mind with an holistic view on design and its effect to the overall project cost
  • Driver of changes, go-getter
  • Project management and Planning skills
  • Teamwork, collaborative with other teams and Communication skill to reach consensus
