Service Engineer

Purpose of the position

 

Here at MacGregor, we have opportunities for experienced Field Service Engineers in the UK for our Merchant Ship Service.


Shape your journey on-board and off-board with us - we are looking for experienced Service.


Engineers to perform and supervise service activities, including refurbishments, upgrades, preventative maintenance and corrective actions on MacGregor and equivalent equipment, as well as maintaining productive team and customer relationships, and ensuring Best Practices are applied in all service-related activities.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

  • Industry Knowledge - staying up to date with major customers active in the business area;
  • Engineering Knowledge - staying up to date with technical developments (where appropriate, related to new types of hydraulics, electrics, electronics, etc.), internal service bulletins and other technical information, as well as technical specifications of MacGregor Range;
  • Project Management - understanding Customer/Cargotec/MacGregor/Operation
  • Manager/Operation Superintendent requirements and expectations, coordinating subcontracted assignments and reporting any non-compliance;
  • Team Management - delegating work assignments to subcontracted team members, communicating and monitoring all safety and quality requirements (person and site related), conducting regular work meetings with subcontracted team and superiors, monitoring performance and providing support and corrective actions when needed;
  • Risk Management - protect self and others, reporting Near Misses & Accidents on our App, following all site safety rules, agreed working practices, and environmental requirements;
  • Service Process - inspecting, trouble-shooting, reporting, planning, and conducting service/repairs when necessary, submitting high-standard regular reports as specified by the Line Manager, keeping adequate records and maintaining documentation in line with agreed standards;
  • New Business Opportunities - recognising sales opportunities and communicating those to the local Manager.
     

What you’ll need to succeed

 

  • Knowledge, qualifications and positive attitude!
  • You must have a right to work in the UK as we are unable to sponsor candidates from outside of the UK.
  • Living within commute distance of Portsmouth is desirable, other locations particularly South Coast may be considered  Mobile, acceptable, and able to work in variable physical site conditions; willing to travel: 40 > 60% (required); mainly within the UK, but occasionally abroad;
  • Technical degree or City & Guilds in Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering preferred (or equal qualifications); 
  • Marine/oil & Gas related industry: Minimum 1 year of experience is preferred;
  • Successful completion of required Cargotec/MacGregor training programs;
  • Fluent in English language, both spoken and written;
  • Current, Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence with acceptable driving record/history
  • Competencies;
  • Good practical & technical knowledge related to MacGregor activities - Hydraulics, Electrical, Electronics
  • Customer-oriented;
  • Able to calmly cope in stressful situations/environment;
  • Able to independently make decisions;
  • Good diagnostic & trouble-shooting skillset;
  • Ability to act responsibly & professionally (in all situations/circumstances);
  • Good “hands-on” skills in multiple mechanical operations;
  • Good computer skills - Google Suite or MS Office knowledge, and other computer systems/programs.
