We are looking for a Senior Lead Software Developer to join the Macgregor Simulation Team C-How. The purpose of the position is to develop and apply simulation tools for new and existing markets to grow MacGregor simulation business and enhance MacGregor's digital solution portfolio. This role contributes to MacGregor’s digital strategy and capitalizes on our current and future customer installed base. Senior Lead Software Developer creates, hands-on programming and implements new functionality to be used in simulation projects, driven by our roadmap and (internal/external) customer requests.

MacGregor’s Digital Twin Simulation applications support different stages of our customer’s life cycle as well as our own internal processes.  By creating a digital twin of actual vessels and its environments and applying real time simulation properties, a safe environment is offered to our customers to develop, validate, experiment and educate with a wide range of equipment, procedures and environmental awareness parameters. Digital Twin Solutions development is in the core of MacGregor’s strategy to increase customer value by offering intelligent services. Currently, the Macgregor Simulation Team C-How can use two different simulation environments: Unity and C-How, of which the last one is in-house developed and based on Java code. The team is located in Kristiansand and Averøy, Norway.

This position reports to VP, Digitalisation and Business Transformation, leading the team lead as an interim manager while building and accelerating the simulation proposition. The location of this position is Kristiansand, Norway.
 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with simulation specialists and engineering departments to produce software designs. Formulate program specifications and basic prototypes
  • Transform software designs and specifications into high functioning code in the appropriate language. Integrate individual software solutions to higher level systems
  • Run and/or automate tests of the software code periodically, to ensure it produces the desirable results and perform debugging when necessary
  • Perform upgrades to make software and systems more secure and efficient
  • Take ownership of new and existing features of engines like Unity and C-how, content editor and tools. Work together - and technically lead - the team to professionalize existing and new software (sub/) tools and software deployment processes to make them effective and efficient for various customer project requests. Consolidate software and functional requirements  for simulation tools
  • Evaluate simulation tools and applications/sub applications in the market that may help to accelerate and add customer value in MacGregor digital twin projects
  • Give input to develop , demonstrate, advise and train customers to utilize digital twin applications in an efficient way through professional training material and documentation as required
  • End-responsibility of all technical documentation and internal training material
  • Gain an understanding of the various projects, coordinate and monitor personnel to appropriate tasking, facilitate schedule development, monitor progress and head off potential problems
  • Create software release planning that is aligned with internal stakeholders and manage the according deadlines.

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

Education:

  • Master/Bachelor degree in Science, preferably informatics/ IT/robotics or relevant software  specialization

 

Experience:

  • 5 - 10 years experiences in (leading) software development,  or software engineering or related roles
  • 5+ years experiences with simulation software
  • Experience with (maritime) industry, customers and Industrial Equipment / Systems will be considered as an advantage

 

Competence:
 

Technology

  • Strong programming skills in Java, C/ C++ and C#, knowledge of HTML, FXML(SceneBuilder) and SQL
  • Software application, development (methodologies) and deployment skills
  • Proficiency with agile and lean software development methods
  • Experienced in simulation tools
  • Technical attitude with ability to communicate and present effectively (in English) with technical resources and other stakeholders
  • Solid analytical skills, with a curious touch
  • Strong project management skills
  • Self-driven, flexible and open minded
  • Inter-discipline understanding (Design impact to other disciplines).

 
Team leadership

  • Create and build trust with the team, colleagues and clients
  • Ability to work in (matrix) teams, motivate, and inspire the team
  • Experiences in leading technical software development teams
  • Experience with Digital Transformation projects will be considered as an advantage.
