Technical Support Engineer

Purpose of the position

Technical Support Spare Engineer is responsible for handling internal and external technical inquiries that may arise for equipment delivered by MacGregor. Main job task will be supporting of internal technical inquiries related to spare parts offered to MacGregor’s clients. This position is mainly dedicated for shipboard cranes, however support for other products line may be needed as well.

This position will have close connection with other technical support engineers, spare parts quotation handlers and sourcing specialists and service engineers. A close cooperation with GPSC (Global Product Service Center) is essential.

Collaboration with other regions and functions is required.


Key tasks:

  Spares support

  • Support spare sales and sourcing through responding to technical inquiries.

  • Identifying components in documentation or drawings and providing advisory.

  • Verification of updated components with original design requirements.

  • Generate/update recommended spare parts list(s) for periodical service.

  Training support

  • Cooperate with training department in terms of reporting training needs of the organization.

  Service Projects

  • Prepare service kits assembly orders.


  • Follow the rules of the Quality System.

  • Maintain the status reporting on problems identified and record corrective actions in a timely, accurate and adequate manner for lessons learnt

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Education

    • Higher education on Bachelor or Master level, preferably in mechanical engineering. Alternatively comparable or equal degrees 

    • OR Equivalent industrial experience with crane’s spare parts or servicing.

  • Experience

    • Minimum 5 years track record from machinery industry preferably with knowledge of cargo handling, lifting appliances, machinery or hydraulic systems.

    • Working experience in marine, shipping or offshore industry is preferred.

  • Innovation

    • Continuously improve current processes and ways of working in the organization.

  • Competences

    • Work independently with technical inquires.

    • Ability to read technical documentation, drawings, piping diagrams in order to identify components.

    • Be able to select update component as replacement for obsolete one.

    • Knowledge of classification societies such as ABS, BV, DNV, LR in terms of components certification and product service maintenance.

    • Cooperate quotation handling teams

    • Suitable technical knowledge on your own products to enable best practice towards time and quality of resolution.

    • Excellent social and communication skills 

    • Fluent in English
