Mechanical Technician

Rapp Marine, a division of MacGregor, is looking for a self-motivated, energetic team player to join our organization.  Our Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments for wide range of marine vessel deck equipment including winches, capstans, boat davits, and hydraulic controls.   He/she will use precision instruments to fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.  

Main tasks and responsibilities:
 
•    Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders
•    Operate grinding and cutting equipment
•    Set up, adjust or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations
•    Operate metal or plastic forming equipment
•    Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories or materials onto machines
•    Measure, examine or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers
•    Measure dimensions of completed products or workspaces to verify conformance to specifications
•    Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools.
•    Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments such as micrometeres or Vernier calipres.

What you’ll need to succeed:

Education
•    Vocational or Technical background 
•    Minimum requirement high school diploma
•    Preference will be given to Veteran’s and those with advance technical degree and/or training
Experience
•    At least one (1) year+ of experience in machine shop operating CNC Machining Lathes or mills, grinders, etc.  
•    Basic knowledge of operating precision tools, machining methods and cutting qualities of metals 
•    Working to machine dimensions and maintain close tolerances and correlated dimensions with attention to precise specifications
•    Able to read/understand blueprints and hydraulic schematics
Competencies
•    Demonstrate strong work ethic, dependability and initiative. 
•    Good communication skills
•    Fluent in English both spoken and written
•    Good problem solving skills
Other information
•    Candidates must have a Valid Driver’s license, and be able to obtain a TWIC card
