Service Engineer

To perform and supervise service activities (refurbishment, upgrades, preventative maintenance and corrective actions) on MacGREGOR and equivalent equipment.   Maintaining productive team and customer relationships as well as ensuring Best Practices are applied in all service related activities.

What you’ll need to succeed:

Knowledge, Qualifications and Attitudes:

  • Mobile, acceptable and able to work in variable physical site conditions
  • Technical degree in electrics or electronics engineering
    • Alternatively comparable or equal degrees or experience
  • Service Engineer has been a Cargotec Service Technician for a minimum of one year
  • Successfully completed defined Cargotec training programs
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written
  • Medical first-aid certificate
  • Current motor vehicle operator’s license with good driving record

  • Good practical technical knowledge related to MacGREGOR activities e.g. Mechanicals,
  • Hydraulics, Electrics, Electronics as required
  • Customer-oriented
  • Able to cope with stressful situations
  • Capable of managing a team
  • Able to make decisions independently
  • Good diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Acts responsibility in the light of prevailing circumstances
  • Good hands-on skills as required for all kinds of mechanical operations
  • Able to safely operate equipment for the purpose of conducting tests and repair
  • Good computer skills
Main tasks and responsibilities

•    Industry Knowledge – stay up to date with major customers active in business area
•    Engineering Knowledge
o    Stay up to date with technical developments (where appropriate related to new types of hydraulics, electrics, electronics, etc. (applicable to equipment)
o    Stay up to date with internal service bulletins and other technical information
o    Stay up to date with technical specifications of MacGREGOR range
•    Project Management
o    Understand Customer/Cargotec/Branch/Service Manager’s requirements and expectations
o    Coordinate sub-contracted assignments and report any non-compliance
o    Make decisions about required action up to agreed authority levels and then communicate with Service Manager
o    Clarify response and completion time required according to the circumstances
o    Understand scope of reporting required:
•    Edit personal daily activity reports
•    ii.    Inspect daily activity reports of subcontracted team members
o    Review onboard ships spare parts inventory (if applicable)
•    Team Management
o    Delegate work assignments to subcontracted teams
o    Communicate and monitor all safety and quality requirements (person and site related)
o    Conduct regular work meetings with subcontracted teams and superiors
o    Monitor performance and provide support
o    Report and take corrective actions in case of an unacceptable non-compliance
•    Managing the Customer – understand and comply with the requirements of the Cargotec Customer Satisfaction Code of Practice
•    Risk Management
o    Protect self and others
o    Follow all site safety rules, agreed working practices and environmental requirements
o    Communicate information to Service Manager and Product Technical Support Department if equipment safety is jeopardized due to any reason
o    Respect and protect Cargotec and third party’s properties (tools, vehicles, facilities, equipment, etc.) and business activities
•    Service Process
o    Inspect, troubleshoot, report, plan and then conduct service or repair as necessary
o    Submit high-standard regular reports as specified by Service Manager
o    Keep adequate records and maintain documentation in line with agreed standards
•    New Business Opportunities – recognize sales opportunities and communicate to Service Manager in local branch.
•    Continuous Improvement
o    Provide feedback to Service Manager and to Product Technical Support Department to support continuous quality improvement
o    Participate in innovative thinking about ways to improve service efficiency
o    Coach/tutor junior colleagues and trainees as necessary
o    Network throughout the local organization and Product Technical Support Department to share practical processes and knowledge
•    Behave at all times in a way that promotes a positive image of the Cargotec brand.  Follow the rules of the Quality System
