Kalmar’s Strategy, Sustainability and Technology division is looking for a Research Trainee to become a member of the Future Technologies team. The location of this position is Tampere.

As a Research Trainee, you will be involved in research and concept projects at Tampere technology and competence centre. You will participate in research projects, working in collaboration with the project team and other stakeholders such as companies and research partners belonging to project consortium. In this role you will apply expertise and knowledge in research projects, finding innovative cost-effective means to improve usability, user experience, procedures, and/or products and technologies. An example of what work will include would be prototyping with VR/AR/ML technologies which help improve situational-awareness of drivers and operators. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

• User experience research specialist
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision
• Define use cases and different scenarios together with project stakeholders
• Conduct interviews, collect surveys, observe prospects or current users, and review existing literature, data, or analytics
• Conduct usability tests and document test results
• Initiate approaches and innovations
• Ensure concepts meet needs as defined by product managers
• Identify and keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets
• Assist in publication of papers
• Efficiently utilise networks in internal peer groups; start becoming part of identifiable external peer networks (universities, research centres, SME companies etc.)
• Prepare prototypes, products, and systems (like VR/AR/MR, see through etc.) for testing

What you’ll need to succeed

• Student in university or university of applied sciences
• User experience studies in information technology sciences and engineering sciences
• Desire to grow as an user experience specialist
• Ability to drive results
• Hands-on problem solving attitude
• Execution of plans with commitment and determination and reports the results
• Experience from user interfaces and user experience design methods
• Willingness to travel
• Spoken and written English language
