Automation System Engineer

Kalmar is looking for an Automation Systems Engineer. This is a cross functional role with focus on development container handling equipment automation systems, tools and processes. You will be also responsible for evaluation and implementation of suitable technologies, automation hardware and lifetime maintenance of the systems,as well as customer projects support on automation system related issues.

Main tasks and responsibilities:


  • Development of automation system design and tools for existing and developed automation products
  • Investigate new technologies, consult with engineering and suppliers to lead development of automation systems and follow up general development of systems in the market in co-operation with research
  • Support decision making, purchasing and implementation of automation systems
  • Maintain, test and diagnose functionality of automation systems and provide support and troubleshooting of faults in systems
  • Plan, make and coordinate technical instructions, methods and provide training and support for other KAS personnel about automation systems
  • Plan, make and coordinate technical documentation and items in engineering and PDM systems.

What you’ll need to succeed:


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation or other relevant field
  • Experience working with PLC HW, sensors and related development and software applications
  • Experience working with automation measurement systems, development and software applications
  • Experience working with positioning and navigation systems, development and software applications
  • Experience working with IP networks and wireless technologies, development and software applications
  • Good understanding of hardware platforms and software applications.
  • Good understanding of IT technologies both theoretical and practical
  • Knowledge in Safety engineering (such as ISO 13849) is an asset
  • Understanding of engineering
  • Good command in English both written and spoken, other language skills are asset
  • Experience working in cross functional and multicultural environment
  • Interested to develop systems, processes and ways of working
  • Delegate, initiative and active work approach
  • Good problem solving skills.
