Kalmar Mobile Solutions is looking for Robotics Engineer, Control.


The purpose of this job is to develop control methodologies, algorithms and their implementation in the machine control system to enable robotic payload manipulation and autonomous mobile machine solutions in the domain of container handling and related other industrial applications. The model-based design, rapid prototyping and automatic code generation tools for control system development are at the core of the role. Your work will target user-assisting, semi-autonomous and autonomous product features for heavy-duty multiple-degree of freedom systems. We value all knowhow on machinery and functional safety of electronic control systems. Robotics engineer works in the Technology function of Kalmar Mobile Solutions. His/her role is to design and engineer control methods and algorithms for robotic mobile machines in collaboration with internal stakeholders and selected partners.


Main tasks and responsibilities


  • Design and engineering of control methods and algorithms for autonomous mobile manipulation in mobile machinery. This is done as part of a multidisciplinary team and internal/external collaborating teams
  • Monitoring, analysing, testing and validating state-of-the-art control technologies and components in the market for specific applications
  • Collaboration in development environment and tools creation and selection
  • Participation and support in development projects.


What you'll need to succeed




  • Master of Science or Doctor of Science in Technology in a relevant field, such as automation, control, robotics, mechatronics, automotive engineering.



  • Senior technology specialist roles
  • Hands-on technology development in robotics control systems, with uncertainties in sensing or actuation
  • Robotics application development experience on heavy duty equipment is considered as a benefit.




  • Expertise with control systems on heavy-duty mobile machines
  • Expertise in motion planning and control for robotic manipulation
  •  Experience in design and implementation of control systems including external sensory feedback, which are subject to variable-delay, uncertainty, and noise.
  •  Knowledge of non-linear model-based control and its common practices
  •  Familiarity with model-based control design tools, such as Matlab/Simulink
  •  Understanding of mechatronics and robotic setups is a plus
  • Understanding vehicle motion control is a plus (e.g. for the Ackermann steering geometry)
  •  Understanding of the safety standards and directives is a plus
  •  Familiarity and experience in control system implementation on PLCs, industrial PCs, or other embedded hardware is a plus
  •  Familiarity with control of hydraulics and hydro-static drivelines is a plus
  •  Understanding robotic system integration, machine vision, object recognition, and AI is a plus
  •  Understanding nonrigid structures is a plus
  •  Understanding and experience of outdoor / variable weather conditions in robotic applications is a plus
  •  Analytical and problem solving mindset
  •  Collaborative mindset
  •  Good verbal and written English.
