This role takes you into the center of technology leadership. As a chief engineer of robotics you will be taking full responsibility for autonomous driving and load handling architecture and engineering in Kalmar. Purpose of the position

 

The purpose of this job is to ensure robotics technology leadership in the ports & terminals, distribution and industrial segment solutions. Chief Engineer of Robotics works in the technology department of Kalmar Mobile Solutions. His/her role is to ensure state of the art architecture design and professional development of the robotics technology platform. The person in this role takes full responsibility for the robotics architecture and robotics technology development and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams.
 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Chief architect for robotics systems
  • Chief engineer for robotics development and engineering
  • Co-design with your peers the equipment automation readiness (vehicle control system and actuators) and the end-to-end systems, i.e. robotised equipment, automation software, remote operations center, and infrastructure systems.
  • Ensure the progress of robotics technology development and availability of professional development environments and tools.
     

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

Education

  • Master or Doctoral degree in relevant fields

 
Experience

  • Technology development in robotics or equipment automation
  • Senior technology specialist / technology manager roles
  • Automation of mobile machines and cargo handling application experience is considered as a benefit

 
Competencies

  • Deep knowledge on at least one of robotic topics and familiarity with the rest of the topics including  (perception, machine vision, planning, mapping, sensor fusion, localization, motion control, mobile manipulation, machine learning) and good understanding of vehicle control systems and functional safety
  • Development and systems engineering process understanding
  • Analytical and problem solving mindset and mindset of big picture
  • Vision for direction and management skills for execution
  • Collaboration mindset and confidence in communications with multidisciplinary teams of experts and managers
  • Skilled to challenge technology status quo and identify smarter ways of working
  • Project management experience is considered as a plus
  • Good verbal and written English
  • Earlier experience on automation project engineering is considered as a plus
  • Knowledge on operation at ports & terminals, distribution centers or industrial terminal is considered as a plus

Product management, software and automation development teams, business division R&D teams, robotics technology partners and suppliers, live equipment test engineers, product integration, project delivery, maintenance & support services.
