Standardization Development Engineer


Apply standard engineering practices toward problem solving and improvements associated with the design, development, and manufacture of parts as a means to reduce their cost.


  • Act as divisional collaborator towards internal/external organizations within standardization and modularization initiatives (e.g. Technology, Sourcing, Quality and Operations)
  • Evaluate feasibility with Chief Engineers and Principal System Engineers
  • Drive decided standardization and optimization activities within R&D
  • Secure potential synergies and best-practice solutions between division
  • Coordinate work efforts with other experts and contribute to standard definition and support in documentation within the Kalmar Group Standard system
  • Provide guidance and support to business units for implementation and compliance to the Kalmar Group Standard system

Perform other related duties as assigned including but not limited to:

  • Work closely with technical teams and manufacturing to enhance the quality of existing products and resolve issues.
  • Anticipate cost avoidance opportunities and achieving cost reduction opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate potential opportunities for component redesign which will result in contained or reduced purchase, manufacturing, assembly and/or testing costs.
  • Support engineering change process by reviewing proposed changes, engineering drawings, documentation, and change timing and their impact on supply chain and the supply base.
  • Support supplier development initiatives executed as a function of commodity and/or supplier strategies.
  • Employ scientific and statistical expertise to support identification of root cause and appropriate corrective action(s) for solving purchased product failures.
  • Review solutions with senior engineers and project managers when necessary.
  • Responsible for managing own work flow and developing a deeper understanding of supply management strategies.




  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering


  • 3+ years in design experience preferred
  • Product development experience on a project from concept phase through launch phase preferred
  • Strong demonstration of experience interacting with the supply chain function and the supply base
  • Supplier development experience preferred


  • Theoretical and applied knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems related to mobile equipment preferred
  • Strong understanding of assembly processes and good understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Good skills in 3D CAD systems, CATIA V5 experience preferred
  • Good organization skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written
  • Good problem solving skills


  • Will be required to work closely with other TT RDE personnel, TT Aftersales, Project Managers, Sourcing, and Production groups worldwide.

Other information

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally will be required
  • Willingness to learn mechanical design if not already experienced in it.
