Kalmar, the leading global supplier of container & load handling equipment and services, is seeking a Senior Manager Terminal Design Services for its office in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The department ‘Terminal Design Services’ is responsible for terminal layout design, operational calculations, business case validations, simulation and 3D modelling for all container terminal operations (port handling systems, conventional operation, automated operation, mixed traffic and semi-automation). Terminal Design Services is the first point of integration of Kalmar products into customer operation, where specific needs and requirements are identified, and a suitable solution is designed to bridge the gap between customer needs and Kalmar product capabilities.


As Senior Manager Terminal Design Services, you will act as a senior consultant in container terminal design projects carried out by Kalmar. Using your knowledge and expertise in container terminals business you will create optional terminal layout designs, evaluate them against operational and financial numbers, and recommend the customer best options to build the terminal or improve current operation, and demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed design using virtual terminal simulation tools.


Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Promoting Kalmar offering to the customers in trade shows, conferences and other meetings.

  • Interacting with Kalmar front-line sales team to build pipeline of future projects.

  • Selling the Terminal Design Services projects to customers, including construction of the offers.

  • Managing the terminal design work assignments financially, in terms of schedule and quality with customers.

  • Leading a team of partners (layout engineers, financial consultants, simulation consultants) to reach the right outcomes in the projects.

  • Presenting the outcomes to the customers.

  • Developing internal tools and ways of working together with other members in the team.


We expect from you


  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in container terminal business (engineering and/or technical and/or maintenance).

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with technical or commercial background.

  • Self starter mindset and used to working independently.

  • Excel in communication, presentation and negotiation skills.

  • Proven in effective stakeholder management.

  • Fluent in English language.

  • Entrepreneurial and creative attitude to come up with solutions that fulfil customers' needs.

  • Readiness to travel globally (~1-2 times per month) to meet customers face to face and/or speak in conferences.

  • Knowledge of CAD modeling software, Microsoft Office and Google software.
