PLC Application Engineer

We are looking for a self-motivated, energetic team player to join our organization. This position will play an important part in, and contribute to the success of our US organization.
Based in our office in Portsmouth, VA office, this position is responsible for providing maintenance & repair service to all brands of Container handling equipment at customer locations with a focus on Electrical repair
and diagnosis. Candidate will also be responsible for assisting personnel in the field, with documentation, report of labor, work orders and inspections.
 
Main tasks and responsibilities
 
• Design, program, test, and start up of equipment
• Frequent travel to site locations for machine start ups. Up to 50% of the time
• Design and document PLC programs and logic per project requirements
• PLC programming
• HMI/SCADA programming
• Rockwell and Allen-Bradley programming
• Communicate and troubleshoot with end users
• Basic hydraulic and machine repair knowledge
• Assist in development of equipment operation manuals
• Assist sales with pre-sales specification review
• Work with product development on new product initiatives
• Work with production to identify and address areas to improve quality and eliminate waste.
• Maintain a project schedule keeping projects moving forward and on-time
• Work with other department personnel to facilitate good communication between departments
• The ability to work in a self-directed, fast paced environment
• Promote and contribute to a continuous improvement culture
• Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering preferred, equivalent experience considered
• 5 years of PLC programming experience
• 5 years Rockwell or Allen Bradley programming experience
• Must be an avid user of computer software including AutoCAD Electrical, Microsoft Office, and ERP/MRP systems
• Must be organized and able to perform in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
