Quality Engineer

Purpose of the position

Designing Kalmar Ottawa’s quality standards and testing processes against the criteria. Responsible for making sure that engineering and manufacturing processes are performed correctly using the right tools, materials, and methods to ensure they are being used. The quality engineer will confirm that employees are trained to the right quality standard, and safety requirements are met throughout the production process. If there are non-conformances, Quality Engineer will lead the root cause of problem-solving activities.

Main tasks and responsibilities

● Determine quality improvement parameters via statistical analysis
● Develop sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods 
● Employ problem-solving tools to determine the root cause 
● Initiate Corrective/Preventative Action Reports 
● Lead activities to contain and resolve vendor issues
● Collect, analyze, summarize data, and make recommendations 
● Collaborate with multiple departments to develop solutions with Production Trial Runs (PTR’s) and Engineering    Change Requests (ECR) 
● Monitor trends to verify the impact of process improvements (Quality, Design, and Material) 
● Recommend design changes to resolve engineering issues 
● Evaluate, interpret, and approve engineering work orders (EO) 
● Utilize Problem-Solving tools (A3, Fishbone, 5 Why, 6 Ms) 
● Create NCR Problem Report & Resolution via MES 
● Utilize MES Quality Workflow Modules (process & design issues) 
● Lead Voice of Customer at MAU 
● Data-Driven Analysis via Q-Tower (assign group of competence) 
● Monitor effectiveness of the Initial Sample Inspection process 
● Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies; achieving and maintaining American Society of Quality Control certified quality engineer qualification 
● Lead root cause analysis for programming failures at Programming Test Tool (PTT) 
● Review new connection systems – Production Perspective (robustness, ease of use, pin protection, etc.) 
● Lead In-House Wiring Harness Assessment (WHA 4) 
● Lead activities to resolve Part Quality issues 
● Create checklists (TPK) for new products (together with Product Quality) 
NPD Accountabilities: 
● Identify early issues at the Model Launch during Pre-Production Operations (PPO) 
● Assess new product, parts, and processes 
● Lead electrical Process Validation Build (PVB) 
● Lead try out activities during Pre-Production Operations (Engineer and Production
 

What you’ll need to succeed

Education:
•    University degree or equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of degree (prefer degree in Quality, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering)

Experience:
•    Advanced knowledge and skills with a proven record in this area of industry
