Prototype Driver

Purpose of the position


This is a temporary, 3rd Shift (evenings, nights) position starting immediately and lasting until approximately November 2024 (end date subject to change).  

 

Support the RDE (Research & Development Engineering) team on the electric vehicle project by driving electric vehicle prototypes, coordinating driving schedules with the Project team, and supporting ad hoc requests from the Prototype Shop team and to assist with other tasks as needed. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

•Drive loaded and unloaded electric truck prototypes around a designated test track and truck lots.
•Hook and unhook an empty or loaded trailer to the prototypes.
•Perform a pre-trip checklist before driving the prototypes. 
•Communicate with other identified Kalmar personnel when the truck is in use. 
•Perform activities according to specified requirements and time schedules.
•Collaborate with Engineering personnel to ensure the truck is available when needed for testing, commissioning, etc..
•Observe and communicate any issues or problems with the prototype truck to Engineering personnel.
•Provide assistance to the Engineering and R&D team in the prototype shop when the truck is not available for driving, as needed. 
•Ensure the safety of themselves and other persons while operating any Kalmar equipment. 
•Check in and out any contractors as needed for the project. 
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
•The driver will be responsible for following safety measures, the code of conduct, and performing emergency response measures if necessary.
 

 

What you’ll need to succeed

 

Education/Experience/Competencies:


•Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Required
•Previous experience driving terminal tractors or tractor with attached trailer preferred
•Ability to drive a terminal tractor.
•Ability to hook and unhook a trailer.
•Good communication skills.
•Fluent in English both in speaking and writing. 

Other Information:
•This is a third shift role, evenings/nights. 
•This is a temporary position starting in April, estimated to continue for several months with a goal of a minimum of 35 hours a week with the potential to reach 50 hours per week, depending on truck and driver availability and project needs.  
•The driver will be required to wear PPE while on site. 
•Must have good vision and hearing or the ability to correct it with aides.  
•Must check in and out of each shift. 
•Experience in a manufacturing or prototype shop not required but preferred
