Manager Programs & Engineering Process

Purpose of the position

This role will be a member of the Terminal Tractors Research, Development and Engineering (TT RDE) management team reporting to the Director of Engineering and responsible for the program management function and engineering processes and tools. The reports of this team will include project manager(s), engineering tools & process administrator and global change administrator. The function will be responsible for managing key advanced engineering projects and new product development projects in conjunction with product development managers and their teams. It will also be jointly responsible for engineering change and communication throughout the TT organization and the engineering tools and processes that support the engineering development process. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

●    Manage the time schedule and milestones within TT advanced engineering and new product development projects. 
●    Manage the meeting cadence, both project meetings and steering group meetings within each program, and the reporting format and structure of the reviews.
●    Work closely with peers in the TT RDE management team, specifically product development managers, and also the sales and product strategy function within TT to ensure programs are clearly scoped and preparation and planning phases of the programs include all necessary details to effectively and efficiently manage the project work and ensure success and clarity of deliverables. 
●    Program Leadership - Exhibit "can do" attitude, treat adversity as opportunity vs setback, manage emotional tenor of project team(s), hold individuals accountable to deadlines/timelines, establish trust, establish importance of results vs effort, promote healthy conflict, and require team's commitment to shared decisions
●    Communications - Establish/use standard formats for exchanging information; make communication action-oriented, concise, and timely; keep team focused and shut-down tangents; set agendas in advance and follow them.
●    Planning - Insist on clear, written scope statements; collaboratively plan projects with project team; have others create their own deadlines; create end-to-end timelines that reflect functional requirements and interdependencies.
●    Performance measurement & management - Collect and analyze status of project, require no-blame assessments of variances to plan, use plan to manage project, hold regular status meetings.
●    Risk management - Identify, work to mitigate/take advantage of, and respond to key risks; seek to understand probability of risk realization and impact; create contingencies; use past experiences and plan for them
●    Problem solving - recognize when problems exist, identify possible solutions, propose options and gain buy in; implement change management and solutions; seek inputs on facts and opinions; make problem solving a collective process.

●    Manage the tools and processes used in the engineering organization to ensure and continually improve engineering efficiency and clarity. Tools include CAD tools, product lifecycle management (PLM) tools, project schedule management tools, and time tracking tools, etc.

What you’ll need to succeed

•    Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
•    Master’s degree or project management certifications a plus
•    Has experience with lean processes and building a continuous improvement culture and mindset within a team.
•    Extensive experience with project management methods and tools
•    Experience with back end of computer systems and IT infrastructure a benefit
•    Experience with utilizing engineering tools and understanding the engineering change and revision of control process
•    Has examples of experience improving engineering efficiency, improving time to market of engineering programs due to optimizing the engineering effort and focusing on the value added elements of the engineering process and removing waste.
•    Has well developed communication skills, both oral and written
•    Has self-confidence to work independently and make important decisions independently
•    Can exhibit leadership styles consistent with the situation and is willing to learn and grow leadership styles 
•    Driving force, energetic and result oriented

•    Fluent in English, both oral and written
