Purpose of the position

Kalmar USA Inc. (Ottawa, KS) is seeking to fill the position of Manager, Automation Solutions. Remote position. May reside anywhere in U.S. Extensive domestic (60%) and international (40%) travel required. Will be individually responsible for ensuring that Cargotec Corporation, through Kalmar USA, is able to deliver Kalmar brand automation solution project outcomes according to agreed timescales, budgets, resources, quality standards, and contractual requirements.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Particular individual responsibilities will include managing the Kalmar Business Area’s Hardware Consulting Group throughout North America, which will involve managing and overseeing the Professional Services Hardware team in their delivery, installation and commissioning of the Cargotec Corporation’s Kalmar SmartPort solutions to customer sites throughout the United States including, but not limited to, overseeing project scheduling, risk assessments and mitigations, troubleshooting, onsite team and remote support as well as customer communication. Serving as the main interface with the customer solution owners, steering groups, customers and other solution management/project stakeholders regarding all automation hardware technical issues, concerns or complaints involving the Kalmar automation solutions being delivered, installed and commissioned at client sites in order to ensure the that sufficient and proper communication between both internal and external parties are occurring to achieved the rapid resolution of any and all raised issues, concerns or complaints.  Planning and overseeing all the activities during customer solution execution, such as resourcing, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, logistics, installation, and commissioning. Ensuring all contractual and technical obligations are fulfilled during the execution of automation solution delivery projects, including establishing and maintaining a risk register for assigned solution streams as well as ensuring that all external and internal technical requirements are resolved before project delivery. Ensuring that all documents such as test reports, certificates, manuals and other necessary documents are ready before solution delivery on-site. Ensuring that project the ramp-up activities take place according to the project plan. Working closely with customers to define, prioritize, and document business and operational requirements for enterprise-level distribution center supply chain management solutions. Overseeing the definition of interface requirements to integrate Kalmar automation solutions with customers’ existing systems. Directing and overseeing automation solution project life cycle from pre-sales through project execution and delivery. Overseeing and directing the development of in-depth and technical system design solution implementation. Overseeing the development and delivery of highly technical presentations and training on the technical and commercial aspects of Kalmar automation solutions. Monitoring of all software/firmware releases and ensuring smooth deployment, risk mitigation, and preparations in both project and live customer environments. Monday through Friday; 40 hours per week; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; $135,262 to $140,000 per year.  

What you’ll need to succeed

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.

Five years of experience with the delivery of engineering solutions to challenges encountered during heavy equipment commissioning or service projects at port or terminal operations which included troubleshooting, investigating, and resolving technical problems encountered during commissioning or service engineering work on heavy equipment such as terminal tractors, forklifts, reach stacker, or cranes used in container handling activities; and two years of experience with the integration, commissioning, and implementation of cargo handling solution hardware or software during automation projects at port or terminal operations.
