Purpose of the Position:

Based in Ottawa, Kansas, this position is responsible to perform maintenance tasks to support the assembly and warehouse operations. Decisions are made regarding own work but in accordance with electrical codes, mechanical standards and machine owners/preventive maintenance manuals where necessary. Must be capable of working with minimal or limited supervisions and have effective communication skills to present problems and solutions to the Maintenance Supervisor or management. Starting rate of pay is $26.65/hour. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

● Observing and complying with all plant safety rules and regulations, including LockOut-TagOut procedures, in the performance of his/her work and reporting any nonconformance to the department leadperson or Supervisor.

● Execution of preventive maintenance schedules for all major equipment, vehicles, and building systems.

● Accurately reporting and completion of maintenance work orders.

● Ensuring that completed work is in conformance to applicable code(s) and maintenance specifications.

● Reporting misuse of plant equipment to his/her leadperson or Supervisor.

● Correctly diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment and machinery problems for proposed repair.

● Correct selection and use of all tools and supplies.

● Return machines being serviced and the area to acceptable housekeeping standards after maintenance work is completed.

● Adequately securing and returning all tools and tooling upon completion of use.

● Operation of all vehicles in compliance to state and local regulations or laws.

● Control, documentation and disposal of hazardous waste materials in compliance with Company procedures.

● Recommend repair, replace or sub-contract with appropriate business reasons on all repairs, but execute the decision of the Supervisor.

● Execute maintenance tasks within acceptable time expectations.

● Keep current on maintenance requirements for all capital goods including hoists, forklifts, vehicles, ground’s equipment, and productive machinery.

● Keep current on local electrical and building codes.

● Assist the Supervisor in training other associates within the department.

● Other duties as may be assigned by his/her Supervisor.

What you’ll need to succeed:


● High school or equivalent



● Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and other systems

● Strong understanding of general maintenance processes and methods

● Demonstrated experience as a maintenance technician. (Preferred)

● Is capable of adapting repair skills and mechanical knowledge to a wide range of different requests.

● Communicates clearly and effectively with others to describe the problem and solution involved in particular maintenance requests.

● Working knowledge of variety of power and hand tools

● Demonstrates ability to operate mechanical and landscaping equipment.

● Physically capable of lifting 50 pounds.

● Excellent manual dexterity and problem-solving skills

● Can respond quickly and calmly to emergency requests.

● Demonstrates focus and familiarity with site safety precautions.

● Exhibits solid time management skills.

● Has a valid driver’s license.

● Works well with a team.
