EHS Supervisor

Purpose of the position

 

Responsible for implementing the Company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management systems along with creating and implementing training initiatives in order to ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. This position will oversee people and processes to assure compliance with corporate EHS goals and objectives as well as applicable ISO, OSHA, EPA, federal and state EHS regulations.  

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Implement EHS Business Plan objectives
  • Managing the workflow of their employees, creating team schedules, and delegating tasks
  • Assessing the work performance of their employees
  • Design, implement and improve ISO 45001 and 14001 programs to ensure compliance with the standards.
  • Analyze and evaluate current EHS processes, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Design, implement, and improve all EHS processes and policies to minimize/ eliminate EHS risks associated with the site and work practices.
  • Manage the EHS risk assessment program.  Including working with supervisors to generate production and warehouse risk assessments.
  • Establish and maintain facility records for occupational and environmental health and safety including documentation on training and certifications.
  • Perform periodic safety inspections and compliance audits.
  • Assess EHS training needs and ensure all employees receive necessary and required training.  Coordinate and/or administer training.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine the cause and recommend changes to work practices, equipment, work areas to eliminate future safety risks.
  • Work with outside safety organizations to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.  Serve as the primary contact to internal EHS organizations and external organizations.

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

Education

  • BS in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering or equivalent discipline desired
  • Current ASP, CSP Safety professional certification preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years experience related to EHS in a manufacturing and/or warehouse environment.
  • Experience and education in ergonomics and EHS compliance
  • Experience creating, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs including EHS training programs
  • Experience building and leading teams

 

Competencies

  • Requires professional specialization in industrial health and occupational safety and technical skills to perform the responsibilities of the position
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of regulations concerning site compliance with environment, health, and safety.
  • Requires the ability to convert environmental, health and safety program goals into site-specific action plans.
  • Must have well-developed writing and verbal skills sufficient to design, deliver, and communicate training, rules and processes; to solve problems and resolve conflict; to investigate incidents; and prepare compliance reports.
  • Must have the ability to identify training needs; develop and implement programs with strong presentation and training skills.
  • Strong computer skills to include Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Works cross-functionally with all departments/entities located at the Ottawa Site to ensure EHS regulatory compliance.
