Purpose of Position:
Definition of specifications for electrical, controls, and mechatronic components and systems in cooperation with Chief Engineers and responsible R&D Manager, including but not limited to, component selection, programming of electronic control modules, schematics, harnesses, interfaces with components, and related.
Responsible for the development of electrical, controls and mechatronic components and systems for application in the Kalmar terminal tractor (TT) product line, including supporting the integration of Kalmar automation systems into the Kalmar TT product line as well as helping to create, manage, and maintain vehicle control system architecture to work with automation control systems. • Set up of development plans for new or improved electrical, controls and mechatronic components and systems for application in the TT product line.
• Verification that electrical, controls, and mechatronic components and systems meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislations requirements, and internal demands for TT products.
• Assist with coordination of electrical, controls, and mechatronic component and system design development between TT products with other Kalmar automated product lines.
• Serve as a subject matter engineering contact for addressing customer service, production, and supplier issues.
• Assist with analysis and approval of electrical, controls, and mechatronic component and system parts, sub-assembly and sub-component purchase drawings to ensure they meet all applicable standards.
• Help ensure effective technical cooperation between TT R&D and Product Supply divisions, including both Sourcing and MAU.
• Development of regular R&D reports to responsible R&D Manager regarding outcome and possible deviations.
• Assist with selection of design solutions, materials, and components for inclusion in electrical, controls, and mechatronic components and system under development.
• In consultation with responsible R&D Manager, purchase sub-components and sub-assemblies for testing and evaluation.
• In consultation with responsible R&D Manager, perform customer and supplier visits as necessary during product design and development phases to assist with testing and analysis of electrical, controls and mechatronic components and systems or the supplies thereof.
• Perform or order testing for verification and evaluation of designs.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Controls, or Computer Engineering.
• Three years of experience the design, development, and testing of electrical, controls, or mechatronic components or systems for truck-tractor or heavy-duty mobile equipment or vehicles, which also includes experience with vehicle or equipment electronic control unit data acquisition and analysis through simulation technology, such as Matlab Simulink or dSpace, for component or system functionality or performance analysis.
Telecommuting benefit available but must reside within one hour commuting distance of Kalmar Solutions’ Ottawa, KS, office.
Requires limited (<10%) domestic and international travel to customer sites.
