Kalmar Solutions, is seeking a Development Engineer, Mechanics to be based in our R&D global design center in Ottawa, KS, located just south of the Kansas City area.  The Mechanical Design Engineer will oversee, track and/or perform engineering tasks related to New Product Development (NPD), Advanced Engineering (AE), Product Care (PC) and Customer Engineering (CE) projects related to Kalmar Terminal Tractors globally based on customer needs, legislation and internal requirements and according to business strategies.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Develop truck components and systems.
  • In consultation with Principal Systems Engineer (PSE) coordinate components and systems design between TT products.
  • In consultation with PSE respond on service, production and supplier issues.
  • In consultation with responsible R&D Manager and PSE plan and perform own activities according to specified requirements and time schedule.
  • To contribute for co-operation between TT R&D and Supply including both sourcing and MAU.
  • Responsibility for regularly reporting to responsible R&D Manager and PSE regarding outcome and possible deviations.
  • In consultation with responsible R&D Manager and PSE purchase component for test and evaluations.
  • Responsible for the design of mechanical vehicle sub-systems and components.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally will be required.
What you'll need to succeed:

•    Minimum: Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering

•    0-5 years in mechanical design
•    Work with a variety of mechanical system design  tasks, working through system requirement generation and system interaction definition.

•    Strong aptitude toward mechanical design
•    Strong background in working in a project based product development environment and process
•    Strong understanding of assembly processes and good understanding of manufacturing processes
•    Strong skills in 3D CAD systems, CATIA V5  experience preferred
•    Skilled in G suite
•    Theoretical and applied knowledge of structural, pneumatic and hydraulic systems related to mobile equipment
•    Theoretical and applied knowledge of design for six sigma principles
•    Theoretical and applied knowledge of lean principles
•    Theoretical and applied knowledge of scrum development methodologies
•    Good understanding of structural analysis and testing
•    Good organization skills
•    Good communication skills
•    Good problem solving skills
•    Fluent in English both spoken and written
