Development Engineer, Electrics

Kalmar, the leading global supplier of container & load-handling equipment and services, is seeking a  Development Engineer, Electrics 

Purpose of the position

Based out of our global design center in Ottawa, KS, located just south of the Kansas City/Olathe, KS area, the Development Engineer, Electrics is responsible for the engineering design, development and project delivery of Systems design regarding Terminal Tractor (TT) within Mobile Equipment division (MED) based on customer needs, legislation and internal requirements and according to business strategies. In this role you will be part of a global team.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering projects and develop and carry out engineering procedures, techniques and sequences to achieve quality and productivity.
  • Conduct engineering analysis using scientific principles to produce and interpret blueprints, drawings and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate with and support the design and production team to ensure activities are aligned and achieve delivery targets.
  • Understand the quality requirements for projects, identify the risks, and implement the processes to achieve the objectives. Ensure that the quality of the deliverables aligns with the organization’s quality standards as well as regulatory quality requirements.
  • Provide coaching and training within own responsibility area.
  • Solves daily operational engineering issues, job is focusing on basic engineering.

We expect from you

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum of 3+ year of relevant business or product experience in electrical/electronic controls systems, or the equivalent Internship or co-op experience in similar environment.
  • Ability to explain and give argumentation to internal stakeholders
  • Strong aptitude toward controls and electrical design
  • Solid understanding of assembly processes and good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong skills in ECAD system and good skills in 3D MCAD systems, CATIA V5 experience is preferred;
  • Good knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems related to mobile equipment
  • Good understanding of linear controls (classical and state-space) theory
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong problem solving skills, ability to collaborate in a cross-cultural, global working environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
  • Detail oriented, hardworking and self-motivated and ability to work under minimal supervision, with management guidance.
