Manager - Research & Development

Kalmar, the leading global supplier of container & load-handling equipment and services, is seeking a Manager - Research & Development 

Purpose of the position

Technical manager of Systems design, mainly including Electrics, Mechatronics/Automation, Electric drive, Cabins, Mechanics/Analysis, Hydraulics and Power Train regarding products within the Business Line Terminal Tractor (TT) in Mobile Equipment division (ME) based on customer needs, legislation and internal requirements and according to business strategies.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • To lead and develop the TT Development design group.
  • Responsibility to meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislations requirements and internal demands for TT products regarding Development design.
  • Responsible for planning and performing of design activities and for agreed costs, deliveries and timing are kept.
  • To ensure cooperation between TT Development design group and Supply including both sourcing and Operation.
  • Member of the TT R&D management team.
  • To ensure technical coordination within TT products regarding Development design.
  • To give input to the products development plan and Business Line TT Product Portfolio Plan.
  • Responsibility for regularly reporting to the Head of R&D TT regarding outcome and possible deviations.
  • Responsible for the staff including salary based on organization and agreed policies.
  • See to that work in own organization is done according to work related legislation.
  • To supply staff within own organization with necessary competencies for accomplish the work and enough resources regarding premises, tools and description for the work have been assigned to the subordinates.
  • Responsible for an efficient working process within own department.
  • Responsible for resources is used efficiently internally and externally both inside and outside Business Line TT.
  • In charge of information to subordinates and the TT R&D management team.
  • Responsible for PDP with subordinates are accomplished yearly.
  • In charge of budget, actual cost and forecast in own area of operation.
  • Responsible for supply resources and competencies to the operation.

We expect from you


  • Education level needs to be Master of Science (M.Sc.) or similar knowledge.



  • Minimum of 3+ years of Management experience
  • Sound technical knowledge regarding ME product types or similar rubber tire vehicles.
  • Experience of product development activities is needed.
  • Experiences from similar tasks are qualifying.
  • Experiences regarding other Kalmar products are qualifying.



  • High level of planning skills is important.
