Purpose of the position
Undertake Mechanical Tradesperson duties as directed by the Supervisor / Regional Manager – Southern IPS at the onset of each project. Ensuring that all work is carried out economically, safely, on time and within client quality standards, and to meet all Inver Port Services’ production requirements
Main tasks and responsibilities
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that all work is efficiently planned, controlled and undertaken to the standards set down by the client and Inver Port Services.
- The position requires a strong focus on customer needs, ensuring compliance with the company’s policies, procedures and production targets.
- Ensuring the customer orders are met in full, on time, every time by working effectively with planning and supervision to fulfill those requirements.
- Improve output, quality and delivery performance while ensuring maximum efficiencies are achieved at the lowest possible cost.
- Ensure safe work practices are carried out in line with the company’s safety and environmental guidelines.
- Assist management to identify options to meet customer requirements.
- Inspect and interpret drawings and specifications and determine method of Manufacture and standards required.
- Maintain a major role in the development and encouragement of the continuous improvement programs within the business.
PEOPLE RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out all business activities in timely, honest and ethical manner and treat all employees / customers / suppliers and visitors with respect.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the health and safety of themselves and others and do not act in a way that may adversely affect the health and safety of any other person.
- Comply with established Policies and Procedures and Occupational Health and Safety legislation including those related to Drug and Alcohol.
- Assist in controlling hazards through the use of risk management procedures.
- Comply with the requirements for Injury Management and/or rehabilitation.
- Participate in Employee Tool Box Meetings.
What you’ll need to succeed
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Either hold or ability to hold Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
- Ability to pass pre-employment medical (incl. D&A screening)
- Hold an unrestricted Drivers Licence (car)
- Ability to work at height on assorted mobile equipment
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to read, interpret and understand plans, diagrams, drawings and specifications, as well as read and interprets internal and external reports.
- Knowledge of sites/projects processes and practices, as well as a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of techniques for interpreting of project scheduling and costing.
OTHER ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED
- Time Management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise conflicting tasks as required.
- Problem solving ability.
DESIRABLE
- Experience with large port cranes an advantage.
- Strong computer skills.
- Forklift License
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence
- Dogging / Rigging Licence(s)
- Working at Heights Training
EXPERIENCE
- Trade qualification with a minimum of 2 years post apprenticeship preferred.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle a variety of personalities and deal effectively with people.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- You may be required to travel at short notice to various locations.
- Ensure you obtain and maintain required PPE and uniform.
- Whilst employed you are to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times whilst representing Inver Port Services.
- All travel requirements are to be made in advance wherever possible.
