HR Trainee

Purpose of the position

Based in Melbourne and reporting to the Country HR Manager, Australia & New Zealand. The purpose of the job is to provide support to the Human Resources department. This role will assist with day to day HR operations and act as a liaison between HR and employees, ensuring smooth communication and prompt resolution of requests and questions. The role will also assist in creating and implementing policies, procedures, processes and documents in addition to assisting with HR projects.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist with day to day operations of the HR function
  • Assist with first level HR queries
  • Conduct initial orientation with newly hired employees
  • Support with recruitment process including communication with candidates, scheduling interviews, phone screening, reference checking, pre-employment medicals.
  • Support Line Managers with updating and creating position descriptions.
  • Assist with creating and implementing policies, processes and documents
  • Advise and assist employees with understanding human resource policies and procedures.
  • Assist and support with HR Projects
  • Support with internal and external enquiries
  • Assist with following up payroll information for new starters
  • Assist with reviewing letters and contracts
  • Assist with conducting exit interviews and reporting 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource or equivalent
  • Experience in a similar role (preferable)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced computer skills, proficient in Google Suite, knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Data management
  • Basic working knowledge of labor law and employment best practices
  • General knowledge of HR practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of recruitment procedures
