Electrical Technical Specialist

Purpose of the position

We currently have a position for an Electrical Technical Specialist to work in container handling terminals, located in Port Melbourne, VIC, Australia. As the successful candidate you will work with Automated Stacking Cranes, RTGs, Manual / Automated Straddle Carriers and ancillary equipment.

The purpose of the role is to provide front-line troubleshooting and problem solving to support high levels of product availability in the terminals.

You will be required to abide to all Occupational Health and Safety standards pertaining to the role. It is expected that you will be able to fault find unsupervised and be able to test and understand electrical systems. The ability to converse in a productive manner with customers is paramount and attention to detail with reports and paperwork is extremely important.

What you’ll need to succeed:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carrying out the Electrical and Mechanical fault finding.

  • Providing support to Warranty and Engineering change work.

  • Providing technical assistance and mentoring to customer Technicians.

  • Recording issues and provide feedback to local and global Technical Support team.

Job Requirements:

  • A valid "A Grade" Electrical License (VIC).

  • Commissioning and maintenance experience with a sound knowledge and practical experience of PLC-control systems. Minimum experience of 4 years needed.

  • Knowledge of Industrial machinery. Experience with container handling vehicles or similar.

  • Knowledge of motor control components such as inverters, encoders and associated software.

  • The ability to carry out independent troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Knowledge of engine ECU and ability to carry out electrical works. 

  • A general understanding of modern ICT technology, automation and exposure to network troubleshooting.

  • The ability to learn and develop yourself to become an expert in the field of automation.

  • Self-motivation to work in a challenging environment for finding solutions and improvements.

  • The ability to work as a contributing team player with a diligent way of working.

  • Attention to detail to ensure all activity is undertaken in compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.

  • The ability to travel interstate regularly and internationally from time to time to support customers and attend training.

  • Understanding of mechanics and hydraulics are considered as a benefit.

  • Knowledge of Omron CX suite & Siemens S7 along with TCP/IP, CANbus, or profinet/profibus comms networks is considered beneficial.
