Making your next move count


We are looking for a Trainee who can join our CB Division for a 12 months internship program and carry out analyses and improvement projects in our main functions such as R&D, Sourcing, Business Development, Product Support, Finance, Operations and Sales Support.


The position is located in either Ljungby, Sweden or Shanghai, China and the internship will be paid. The trainee period starts in September and it lasts for 12 months. Exact starting date and end date can be agreed with some degree of flexibility. The language of the internship is English.


The main tasks and responsibilities of this role will include conducting business performance analyses and suggesting improvement actions within each function, as well as carring out already defined improvement projects and back up in various tasks.


Overview of the program


The 12 months program is divided into three key phases as described below. During the first 2 phases you will be based mainly at one of our sites in Ljungby, Sweden or Shanghai, China, whichever will be considered your homebase. During the third and final phase, you will relocate and spend your time at the other site.



Phase one: Onboarding & Skilling, hands-on bootcamp


The approximate duration of the first phase is 3 months. During this phase, you will receive an introduction and onboarding to Kalmar’s mission, culture, strategy and structure. Furthermore, you will participate in several skilling trainings necessary to succeed in the job, such as: 


  • Technical skilling to fulfil position requirements and needed technical certifications on the site and at one of our multi-assembly units, including hands on assembly of our products.
  • Professional and soft skilling training and assignments in project management, change management, effective interpersonal skills, creativity and innovation, time management, alongside a set of other professional skills required by the job market.


Phase two: On-the-job training


During phase 2, you will be joining each of our 6 main functions for a 3-4 week period at each function. Therefore, this phase will last approximately 6 months.

Firstly, you will be on-the-job shadowing the function head and/or key members of the function. Then, you will carry out an analysis of the functions’ processes and performance and suggest improvement actions. Alternatively, you will carry out an already defined project within the function.

During this period, you will gain significant experience and insights in our business and how we operate, as well as how we can operate even better. 


Phase three: On-the-job training at other than homebase


During the last phase of the program, which will last approximately 3 months, you will relocate to the site which is not considered as your normal homebase. I.e., if you are located in Sweden during the start of the program, you will now relocate and work from China. During this phase, you will work on a bigger project and present it at the end of the program to the CB division’s Leadership Team. 



Although the program lasts 12 months, the duration of each phase is flexible as it depends on the Visa/Covid situation.


What you’ll need to succeed:


We are looking for a person able to work independently and who eagerly takes on new responsibilities. This position is meant for students in their last semester or recent graduates of Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths Bachelor or Master degree. 


Ideally you have:


  • Good spoken and written English with an international mindset
  • Strong analytical skills and working style
  • Great IT skills, Google Workspace (Suite) and Microsoft Office Excel 
  • Knowledge of Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), QlikView, SAP and LN is considered an advantage
  • Passionate about technology
  • Customer service focus and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines
  • Hands-on attitude and willingness to learn
  • Any local language skills are considered an advantage, but are not necessary as the official language of the internship is English
  • Previous experience in the company is not required, but it is considered an asset
