HSE Advisor

Purpose of the position

The HSE Advisor is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and general running of the safety management system in line with current standards. To advise management of the day to day management of multiple sites and assist Projects comply with State relevant HSE laws.

Geographically the role covers Australia and New Zealand.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the establishment of new sites in NSW & Queensland by taking the safety lead:
    • Emergency Procedures Including Essential Services
    • Traffic Management Plan
    • Site Risk Assessment
    • Organise training - e.g. overhead crane, fire extinguisher
    • Signage requirements
    • Line marking etc
  • Assist the Kalmar/Inver Port & Hiab Services teams with the HSE documentation 
    • Risk Assessments for the plant and equipment that is used
    • Drafting Checklist and inspections as determined
    • PPE Requirement review
    • SOP for plant and equipment
    • Contractor management
  • Company Reporting & Compliance System Maintenance (eg. STEMS) including:
    • Liaising with Business Units for external training & compliance requirements
    • Workplace Inspections / Safety Walks
    • Incident / Hazard Reporting and Investigations
    • Record and report on performance data
  • Liaise with Business Units for external training & compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and prepare risk assessments and record and report on performance data
  • Conduct or assist in workplace Inspections,  safety walks and internal audits
  • Asist the RTW coordinator to develop plans to assist injured workers back into the workplace
  • Support the roll-out of safety initiatives across the businesses by engaging the supervisor & managers.
  • Asist the Site Safety Committee/Meetings, toolbox talks with key stakeholders 
  • Update & data entry entry into various Contractor Management Systems (eg. Rapid & Pegasus) 
  • Travel to sites around Sydney & some interstate travel may be required
  • Assist the HSE Manager with other items as discussed.

What you’ll need to succeed:


  • A recognised formal qualification in WHS or related field
  • Incident Investigation qualifications (ICAM and/or equivalent Root Cause Analysis training) will be advantageous
  • Internal Auditor qualifications will be advantageous
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment & experience will be highly regarded


  • Minimum two years’ experience in a safety / EHS role
  • RTW coordinator experience will be advantageous 


  • Working knowledge of OHS & WHS legislation, Regulations Codes of Practice and Standards
  • Well-developed communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite & Microsoft Office Programs
  • White Card (construction work) & Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or the ability to get one.
  • Current & Valid Drivers Licence
  • The ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced blue collar environment, and be self-motivated and driven
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
