Supplier Quality Engineer

Purpose of the position

 

 

Key member of the Waltco Sourcing team whose primary responsibilities include supplier quality. Background in manufacturing and operations, sourcing, lean and ISO is required, specifically in the application of steel and metal fabrication pricing/demand for use in the Hydraulic Lift Gate industry. Experience in steel fabrication and welding and/or steel service center is preferred.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

 

  • Drives and further develops relationships with current supply partners to improve daily performance at the lowest cost.  
  • Investigate true manufacturing cost and identify opportunities for cost savings with current supply partners or re-sourcing to more competitive and capable new sources.
  • Seek and develop new potential supplier partners that help organization meet defined objectives to ensure primary and secondary suppliers are qualified.
  • Analyzes engineering specifications and customer expectations to help in determining sourcing requirements.
  • Monitors and manages supplier on-time delivery and quality performance to assure capability to meet on-time production schedules.
  • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.
  • Keep abreast of market trends and new materials or processes, especially for steel and metal fabricated components.
  • Coordinates processes to insure all purchased materials meet engineering specifications, quality system requirements, cost expectations, inventory requirements, and delivery expectations.  Makes recommendations to purchasing systems modifications and enhancements.  
  • Monitor prepared reports for Purchase Price Variance, Key Supplier Metrics, Scrap Levels, Quality, and On-Time Delivery.
  • Analyze TCO and competitiveness of quotes received and prepare complete information for Sourcing Manager to approve.
  • Initiate and drive implementation of sourcing projects from start to finish to meet established business objectives.

What you’ll need to succeed

 


Education:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Management, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related field

 

Working experience:

 

  • 5 years of materials sourcing management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in automated MRP/MPS and/or Kanban systems managing inventory control.

 

Skills and competencies:

 

  • Ability to evaluate production and market demands based on input from sales, manufacturing, and system data reviews to project labor and materials requirements for manufacturing planning. 
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. 
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. 
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
