R & D Engineer

Compensation Data

Salary range is $60,000-80,000 per year based on skills and experiences. 

Purpose of the position

• Engineer responsible for the development of new and existing machines and components within the USA product portfolio
• Work within Engineering Office Procedures and Standards
• Design and develop solutions to technical problems or product improvements

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Create ECO/ECN as required for local changes to the SBO product
• Carry out design work as required on EWR (Engineering Work Requests)
• Create detailed drawings for designs including Weld and General Assemblies
• Create BOM (Bill of Material) and modules for all components and assemblies designed
• Liaise with suppliers both internal and external on new machines and components
• Responsible for complying with all aspects of site safety, environmental rules and complying with all applicable legislation
• Ensure ECO Introduction from Global changes that affect the SBO product
• Production Support – Technical support for Assembly and manufacturing issues
• Quality Support – Involved in PPAP samples an any non-conforming product technical issues
• Sourcing Support – RFQ drawings, supplier visits, PPAP sample validation, tech support
• Service Support – Where possible, support with technical queries from USA field issues
• Involvement in all aspects of a technical nature that could affect product safety

What you’ll need to succeed

Education:

• Successful completion of a Mechanical Engineering or relevant degree

Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years design experience in a manufacturing environment using a 3D CAD package (ideally Pro Engineer) with experience in FEA (Simulate or Ansys)
• 5 years designing steel structures, mechanical assemblies and systems
• 2 years experience working on mobile equipment

Competencies:

• High competency in mechanical engineering calculations with attention to detail 
• Understanding of PDM systems and working within a controlled environment
• Understanding of engine, drivetrain, hydraulic and electrical components and systems related to mobile equipment would be beneficial 
• Competent user of all Microsoft Office programs excel, word and PowerPoint and knowledge of their application in daily work
• Motivated self starter with good time management and an interest to learn with good organisational skills and high accuracy of work
