Compensation Data
Salary starting from $95,000 per year based on skills and experience.
Purpose of the position
- The Hiab Business System Leader/ Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of factory improvement projects to fulfill the strategic objectives of the Hiab Business System office and business strategy of the local business.
- This leader will report directly to the site Operations Manager and will be responsible for driving the Business Unit’s continuous improvement through the successful planning and implementation of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. Will partner closely with business unit leadership to ensure the transformation to a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- The Hiab Business System Leader/ Manager will be the master facilitator and change agent driving the intensive application of kaizen to establish a workforce knowledgeable in lean concepts and problem-solving techniques. Delivers practical, hands-on training to associates on Lean manufacturing methodology and tools to eliminate waste in all administrative, manufacturing and support functions. Measures and reports improvement progress for business unit activities on an on-going basis.
- SQDIP - Works in tandem with site Operations Manager and VP Operational Excellence in providing support to ensure Operational Excellence principles are implemented. This will include working together with business unit leadership in areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, Cost and Business Strategies.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Communicates the status of all Hiab Business System (HBS) efforts to the Leadership Team. Provides documentation of results and benefits achieved
- Analyzes, interprets, recommends, and leads the use of Hiab Business System (HBS) tools and methodologies for improved profitability and continued growth, including product line repositioning and structural changes, as appropriate
- Works with Site Leadership to establish the HBS road map and budgetary implications for resources and investment. Prepares improvement funnel, budgets, performs analysis, and recommends how to maximize return on investments
Safety
- Continuously improve the application of 6S to increase safety and performance
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures that encompass safe working practices
- Promote Leader Standard Work systems of audit and daily management to sustain improvements in safety and performance
Quality
- Facilitate and lead structured Problem Solving event to establish true root cause countermeasure
- Develop daily improvement process through SQDIP Daily Management
- Work with the quality function to facilitate the use of JDI (Just Do It) & Kaizen events to implement quality improvements and gain measurable results
Delivery
- Use the tools from the Hiab Business System to implement flow through the complete enterprise
- Review delivery performance with the Value Stream Managers and Site Leadership to identify and deliver improvement using HBS tools
- Uses the HBS kaizen cadence to continually improve delivery performance with tangible results
Inventory
- Develop the use of Kanban to improve material flow and in turn improve cash flow
- Working with the sourcing team and using the HBS tool kit promote the use of PFEP (Plan For Every Part) to establish inventory amounts, locations and replenishments
- Establish processes that utilize the use of JIT (Just In Time) reducing work in progress throughout the enterprise
Productivity
- Promote and develop a culture of continuous improvement and Kaizen across the enterprise
- Facilitate the use of VSM (Value Stream Mapping) to identify productivity improvement opportunities throughout the enterprise, recording these in the site improvement funnel and developing the 12 month cost road map from this
- Develop process layouts that remove waste and give measurable productivity improvement using Kaizen implementation techniques
- Continuously work with the site leadership and value stream managers to analyze data to establish opportunities for improvement
People
- Ensures on-going education of all employees of the Business Unit in the Hiab Business System. Promotes a Continuous Learning environment through development and delivery of all intellectual property
- Shares “best practice” methods and ideas with all Hiab Business System Leaders
- Promote a culture of employee engagement with the use of Kaizen to engage teams
- Bring to life each day our HIAB values and demonstrate these behaviors in his / her leadership style
What you’ll need to succeed
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or other technology or science related areas preferred
Experience:
- 5-8 years of progressive materials, manufacturing and operations team management experience. Must have successfully led Kaizen events within a manufacturing and transactional environment. Understanding of financial measurements and goals in Lean/Flow throughput
Competencies:

- Demonstrated understanding of Lean principles and improvement strategies such as Value Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, Five S’s, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Continuous Improvement Process, Kaizen, SPC, Six Sigma and Communication Tools, and Statistical Problem Solving
- Excellent communication skills to lead and support empowered employees in a team environment. Requires the ability to organize and direct functions under his/her direct control, as well as within a matrix reporting structure
- Strong project and budget management skills to guide and implement Site plans and monitor performance to plan. Ability to prioritize, balance, and manage multiple efforts with strong results/goal orientation. Agility and personal adaptability with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities with a high sense of urgency in a rapidly changing environment
- Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking. Passion for data, analysis, trends, reporting and technology. Ability to write clearly and informatively routine reports, correspondence, and designs workflows and procedures
