Finance Analytics Engineer

Purpose of the position

The role addresses the growing demand for Business Intelligence (BI) and hands-on data analytics within the Finance domain. The primary focus is on applying advanced data modeling techniques to develop and maintain critical financial reporting and BI solutions used daily by a large global user base. Engage directly with Finance teams, Controllers, and business stakeholders, ensuring finance-driven analytics that drive strategic decision-making. A core responsibility is fostering a self-service BI culture, offering senior support, training, and best practices to junior BI team members and end users. The role will work closely with cloud data engineers, IM solution owners, external service providers, and key business partners to address increasing demands for data-driven financial insights. This position is part of the Hiab Finance Analytics team and reports to the Hiab Finance Analytics Manager.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Support the Finance function by creating and maintaining BI solutions that provide critical financial insights, including dashboards (Looker Studio), presentations (Google Slides), Connected Sheets (Google Sheets), and custom SQL queries in BigQuery
• Develop financial data models and apply business controlling principles to ensure reports and insights support key financial processes such as P&L analysis, forecasting, working capital management, profitability analysis, and variance reporting
• Translate financial business requirements into technical solutions, working closely with Finance leadership, Controllers, and business stakeholders to develop finance-focused BI solutions that address strategic needs
• Act as a finance data expert, ensuring data integrity in financial reporting, reconciling BI insights with actual financial performance, and ensuring reports align with financial policies and key business KPIs
• Build and optimize data pipelines for finance-driven analytics, integrating data from multiple sources using SQL and Python, while ensuring strong financial data governance and best practices in data warehousing
• Migrate reporting solutions from one BI platform to another (e.g., data flow design, ingestion, validation) to enhance finance analytics capabilities
• Analyze and prepare financial data for advanced analytics and AI-driven forecasting, leveraging machine learning algorithms and predictive models to support financial decision-making.
• Work towards establishing a self-service culture, supporting finance teams with SQL queries, data visualizations, and finance-specific insights, while offering training and best practices
• Collaborate with Cloud Architects, Data Engineers, Corporate IM Solution teams, and external service providers to develop new finance-focused analytics solutions on cloud platforms
• Identify additional areas for BI application in financial analytics, cost control, and strategic planning within the Hiab environment.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Bachelor’s or University degree in Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field
• Relevant experience in data management, ETL, data warehousing, and BI reporting, with a strong focus on financial data and business controlling applications
• Proven experience in Finance, Controlling, or FP&A roles where BI, data analytics, and financial modeling were actively used to support decision-making and performance management
• Strong understanding of financial KPIs, variance analysis, profitability modeling, working capital management, and financial forecasting
• Deep expertise in SQL development, including writing and debugging complex queries, stored procedures, and functions, with a strong focus on financial data structures and reporting
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and Google BigQuery is highly desirable
• Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Looker Studio, Qlik Sense, and Power BI
• Experience in using Python for data engineering, financial modeling, or automation is considered an advantage
• Experience in VBA or Apps Script (JavaScript) for automation is a plus
• Advanced user of spreadsheet applications (Google Sheets, Excel), with strong financial modeling capabilities
• Academic training in business statistics, data science, or machine learning is nice to have
• Full professional proficiency in written and oral English.
