Digital Twinning Engineer

We are looking for a Digital Twinning Engineer to join Hiab's Operations team. The purpose of the position is to define and execute a roadmap for the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies aiming to continuous improvement. This position creates digital twins using 3D software and runs simulations to measure product performance in varying conditions.
This position is located in Dundalk, Ireland and you will report to Production Engineering Supervisor.


Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving the Business Unit to decide what sensors to install and what type of data to collect start by applying lean principles 
  • Mapping the value stream, identifying where time is wasted and scrap is created are key metrics to analyse
  • Analyzes, interprets, recommends, and leads the use of Hiab Business System (HBS) tools and methodologies for improved profitability and continued growth, including product line repositioning and structural changes, as appropriate
  • Lead capital justification and implementations
  • Use of virtual and augmented reality for instruction and support of manufacture
  • Use of ATV to reduce the forklift traffic
  • Establish processes that utilise the use of JIT (Just In Time) reducing work in progress throughout the enterprise.

What you’ll need to succeed:



  • BSc or MSc Degree in Computer Science or in a related technical field or relevant experience
  • Relevant experience can compensate for lack of formal education



  • 5-8 years of progressive materials, manufacturing and operations team management experience would be beneficial
  • A strong software engineering background and a proven track record of delivering high quality products at scale. Knowledge and understanding of Mechanical, Electrics/Electronics, Assembly work, Hydraulics, Work Instructions and Safe working practices
  • Must be a hands-on role. Must have strong software development skills (Ruby, Python and Go) and be able to design systems that meet business needs. Experience in concurrency, algorithms, distributed memory management, communication protocols, distributed programming
  • Ability to work on own initiative, to come up with solutions and problem solve
  • Understanding of TAKT time and build implications
  • Understand the internals of big data technologies like Kafka, Spark, Flink, ElasticSearch etc.



  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Good co-operations skills with internal and external parties
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean principles and improvement strategies such as Value Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, Five S’s, etc.
  • Experience in using ERP systems
  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure automation - Terraform, chef, ansible etc.
  • Experience working with Public cloud (GCP/AWS etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong project and budget management skills
  • Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking.
