Robotic Control Engineer

Purpose of the position
 
This position offers a great opportunity for a student or a recent graduate to advance the automation of heavy-duty mobile machines.  This is an early stage position for an enthusiastic engineer to learn about the contribution of data-driven methods in the automation and control of highly automated systems, including autonomous and semi-autonomous machine automation. In this position, someone with expertise in robotics, industrial automation, and model-based design of control systems can extend his/her skills towards addressing cross-disciplinary long-term challenges. 

 

You will put hands on effort to model based design (e.g. Matlab Simulink), rapid prototyping & automatic code generation,  verification, and ensuring that the model mirrors its functionality in different computing platforms based on standards and common practices. The target platform can be an RTOS, Simulink Real-time target, or PLCs in e.g. the TIA Portal environment. Our work mainly targets proof of concept developments for heavy-duty real-world robotics, which we can support application of AI-based methods for automated systems. The position offers also a great opportunity for a PhD/MSc student to complete his/her studies and grow professionally in a globally trending domain of work. 
 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Walking through hardware implementation of state-of-the-art control and robotic solutions in collaboration with SBUs’ development teams.
  • Performing tests and measurements of automated machines and documentation of results.
  • Providing support for R&D projects with algorithmic solutions for embedded hardware choices.
  • Active participation in defining systematic test methods for automated and teleoperated machines
  • Active participation in development of systematic solutions toward certifiable software implementations aligned with safety experts.
  • A key team player collaborating within a multidisciplinary team in coordination with long-term R&D projects of different product lines.

 
What you will need to succeed:

 

  • Accomplishments in at least three of the relevant courses such as robotics, automation, mechatronics, machine learning, linear algebra, digital control, nonlinear control, signal processing.
  • Programming for Siemens TIA or S7 PLCs or similar industrial setups with relevant protocols.
  • Matlab/Simulink and C/C++ programming and real-time operating systems
  • Hands on experience with sensors and actuators, and synchronized data recording is considered to be a plus.
  • Familiarity with industrial IoT is considered to be a plus.
  • Familiarity with visualization tools and CAD/CAE tools are considered to be a plus.
  • Strong Interest in research and study in new topics in the field of robotic and AI applications
  • Analytical and problem solving mindset
  • Highly proficient in verbal and written English.
