Payroll Supervisor

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 
This position supervises payroll representatives in the US, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. Operates as the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues and continuously looks for improvements in operational processes and designs and implements those initiatives. Optimizes the contribution of the team through coaching, counseling and implements workable solutions to business issues/problems with minimum referral to management. Conducts work planning, estimation and prioritization to optimize performance of team and works with company leaders to define standards and reusable approaches for Payroll operations. This individual manages effective internal/external client relationships within own area of responsibility, and builds client relationships in the wider group or unit.


 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 
•    Contributing project team member of initiatives to bring Cargotec to the next level of compliance
•    Assist in the management and development of subordinate staff by interpreting day to day business objectives and empowering with actionable insights. Also champion continuous learning in the payroll space.
•    Working in payroll system, support 9 legal entities managing multi-state payroll including: ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time, including withholdings and imputed pay items; ensure that relevant data is maintained in Paycor system; look for opportunities to improve process automation and implement where practical.
•    Cover for team members in back up role for time off and/or high-volume work efforts
•    Review payroll related  tax correspondence and find solutions either internally or by escalating to payroll services provider.  Monitor for timely resolution.
•    Ad-hoc reporting and analysis
•    Support Accounting with general ledger actionable reports
•    Support various internal and external audits as they apply to payroll related information.
•    Partner with HR to support their initiatives as they relate to compensation and benefits
•    Educate employees regarding business policies synchronization as it impacts them 
•    Maintain and test Desktop Procedures (SOPs) on all payroll related functions.
•    Create and enforce cross training of personnel 
•    Vigilantly maintain a highly confidential work environment in an open office, shared services environment.

What you’ll need to succeed:

 

Education
•    Bachelors  degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, Human Resources

 

Experience
•    Minimum 5 years of payroll experience (CPP preferred). 
•    Minimum 5 years multi-state payroll environment covering a minimum of 10 states.
•    Knowledge of Canadian payroll requirements (desired).
•    Knowledge of Paycor payroll system (desired)
•    Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience 
•    Experience in a “shared services” environment (desired)
