Purpose of the position


We at Cargotec are looking for Architect, AI & Robotics to join our Data Driven Services team. 

You will be developing our eco-efficient and autonomous solutions of the future. Your closest contacts will be your team members, but you will work very closely with our Product & Engineering managers and selected partners. One important part of our work is to actively seek collaboration with academia and startup companies to keep up with the latest developments in this area. 
On this role, we are looking for candidate:

  • Who can research, design, implement and evaluate state-of-the-art algorithms for smart perception, learning and robotic manipulation in the load handling domain
  • Who can support our journey of electrification followed by higher levels of automation


The position is based in either Tampere or one of our offices in Finland and will be reporting to the Director, Data Driven Services.

Your role will be in a centralized service function. The research and technology development work topic is flexible and can be relevant to different business units of Cargotec Corporation such as Kalmar, Hiab or MacGregor.

What you’ll need to succeed:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Open mind and strong motivation in participating multidisciplinary teams from prototyping to production level
  • Familiarity with some of the mathematical topics (e.g., linear algebra, multivariate calculus & optimization, probability theory & statistics, algorithms & complexity, information theory, control theory) is considered as a plus.
  • Capable of participating, delivering and planning for achieving results in both long-term projects and short-term sprints. 
  • Due to the cross disciplinary work expectations, a strong candidate should be experienced in one of the following topics and have understanding of the remaining fields: 
  1. Control and automation
  2. Signal processing
  3. Mechanics and mechatronics
  4. Machine learning and artificial intelligence 


Ideally, you have:


  • Master’s degree or PhD in relevant science field, such as robotics, machine learning, or signal processing
  • 5 years of experience in industry or academia, including automation, system identification, measurement technologies, or other related fields
  • Good mathematical, modeling and coding skills in two or more programming languages, such as Matlab, C++/Python, ROS
  • Genuine interest in real-time, recognition oriented perception and online multimodal data analysis
  • Familiarity with a simulation environment or toolbox.
