The Manufacturing & Logistics Engineer plays a vital role in optimizing the entire flow of materials, from supplier to customer, with a strong emphasis on efficient and innovative design of transport stillages and material handling solutions. This role combines expertise in logistics, engineering design, and manufacturing processes to ensure smooth, cost-effective, and sustainable movement of goods. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of supply chain principles, material handling equipment, and packaging design, coupled with the ability to analyze data, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Safety:
- Ensuring all risk assessments are carried out thoroughly and maintained effectively.
- Supporting the investigation of LTI, near misses and other safety incidents.
- Accountable for all safety incidents within manufacturing engineering.
- Continuously work on engineering solutions to reduce risk in the production processes.
Develop and implement logistics strategies:
- Develop and lead the overall logistics strategy for materials, encompassing procurement, warehousing, transportation, and distribution.
- Implement lean methodologies (FIFO, JIT, Kanban) to optimize inventory levels and minimize waste.
- Analyze logistics data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost reduction.
- Collaborate with suppliers, transport providers, and internal stakeholders to optimize the supply chain and ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Develop and lead the overall strategy for the logistics of materials from the point of supply to the point of manufacture.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to incorporate all relevant factors to determine a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) which determines the warehouse capability required to maintain the manufacturing operation.
- Fully understand the warehouse capability required for the PFEP and the impact of changes to PFEP parameters.
Design and optimize material handling solutions:
- Design and develop innovative transport stillages and packaging solutions to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and protect products during transit and storage.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed designs and specifications for stillages, containers, and other material handling equipment.
- Analyze material flow and handling processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, ergonomics, and safety.
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for stillages and packaging, considering cost, durability, and sustainability.
Support production and engineering:
- Provide logistics and engineering support to production in the areas of material flow, equipment, assembly aids, and tooling and assist any other duties that may arise that are consistent with the role.
- Support the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process, ensuring optimal stock disposition, product configuration, and BOM verification.
- Analyze production processes and material presentation to identify and implement improvements.
Drive continuous improvement:
- Pursue continuous improvement initiatives to maximize factory output, reduce costs, and create a world-class manufacturing environment.
- Identify and eliminate short and long-term problems related to material logistics.
- Explore, analyze, and implement automation to improve warehouse operations and reduce operating costs.
